Summer GBB: MN Fury Congratulates Martell and Seter

E-mail Print PDF

basketballThe Minnesota Fury program would like to congratulate Ashley Martell and Maggie Seter from the Minnesota Fury Gold team for their recent verbal commitments.

Although only with the program for one year, Maggie's hard work and always positive attitude were an exemplarity representation of our club. Both Maggie and her father, Curt, were outstanding additions to the Fury. We wish Maggie the best of luck at Jamestown.

Ashley Martell has been with the club since our inception, playing 4 years for the Fury. We commend Ashley and her family for their loyalty; sticking with our club as we have grown. Look out for Ashley's younger sister, Tori, who as a 6th grader will already be entering her 3rd year of playing in our club! Good luck to Ashley at UM Crookston! We wish both of these girls excellent senior seasons!

VB Out & About: Totino-Grace/Columbia Heights

(25-5, 25-7, 25-10)

Totino-Grace used a tough serving game and took advantage of free balls in sweeping Columbia Heights with a margin of 46 points. TG had 19 aces in the time I watched. I did not get to the game on time due to my practice schedule. I did see enough to get the flavor. When I arrived TG led 11-4. Soon it was 20-4 thanks to four Sami Kruse aces in a 9 point Eagle run.....it could have been more, I don't know, I wasn't there when Kruse started her service run.  Earned points overwhelming favored TG 43-4. Heather Schiller led TG with 12 points, 10 on kills. Three Eagles had 4 aces (when I was there) Jordyn Wentland, Delaney Rohan and Sami Kruse. TG is now 3-1 on the year, all their wins have been sweeps. Their only loss was a fiver to Osseo. CH is 0-4, all sweeps.

MN HS VB: SW Challenge Tourney Field

E-mail Print PDF

volleyballThis weekend's big tournament event will be the SW MN Challenge held at SW MN State and Marshall High Schools. There are 11 ranked teams including all #1s----Lakeville North, Hutchinson, and Minneota.

The Southwest Minnesota Challenge was founded early in 2005 with the completion of the new High School in Marshall.  The tournament was created by former MHS assistant volleyball coach, Jon Hegerle and current MHS head volleyball coach, Dan Westby.  In 2006 & 2007, the tournament consisted of 16 teams.  The field was expanded to 32 teams in 2008.

We’re very excited about the tournament field we’ve been able to assemble this year.  The teams competing this year have over 150 state tournament appearances between them.  Seven of the teams entered in this year’s Southwest Minnesota Challenge were participants in their respective state tournaments a year ago while three advanced to the state finals.  The host team, Marshall, won their third state championship last season.  Eighteen teams entered in the tournament this year were ranked in the top ten in their respective classes, including all three #1 ranked teams in Minnesota.

The event starts Friday.
