volleyballThis is the third part of the week that was #9-----Weekly Awards

TEAM OF THE WEEK

Lakeville South moved into the #1 spot atop the AAA polls last  Monday and were challenged right away on Tuesday at #2 Eagan. The Wildcats were undefeated in the South Suburban and were home. On top of that Eagan was up 2-1. The Cougars rose to the occasion and won the next two sets to tie Eagan for the conference title. The Cougars had four players with 10 or more kills in the Eagan win. LS now has won 15 straight matches and is 24-1 on the year. LS has the size, balance and veteran leadership to an impact in the post season. But their path won’t be easy. They will have to face at least two top 7 teams on their way to Xcel.

PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Monica Turner of Lakeville South is a big presence at the net. In the five set win at #2 Eagan on Tuesday Turner had 5 blocks and 19 kills for 24 points. She closed the night with three straight points. This is Turner’s second honor this season---she won the honor in week #4--- and third for her career.

OH Cassie Chruscielski, Duluth East 2012
OH McKell Anderson, Lakeville South, 2012
MH Kaitlin Van Winkle, Eagan, 2012

SETTER OF THE WEEK
Lydia Dimke of Blaine gets the nod for the second time this year (she was honored in week #5). The 6-1 sophomore is part of a 6-2 system so gets to swing as well. Dimke helped the Bengals to a sweep of St. Michael-Albertville on Thursday. Blaine had the best kills per set of the week with Dimke contributing 29 assists for the match.

LIBERO OF THE WEEK

Allie Moser of Lakeville South helped the Cougars hold off the #2 Eagan Wildcats. Moser made sure her teammates knew what was coming prior to serves. As a result LS had the lowest ace per set against them for the week. The Cougars also held Eagan to less than 12 kills per set.

NEWCOMER OF THE WEEK

Elena Lushine of Duluth East is not new to the folks of NE MN, but I haven’t seen her until Thursday. Lushine shined for the Greyhounds in their comeback wins over Champlin Park. The 6-1 Lushine had 12 kills and three blocks to go along with one ace in the win over the Rebels.
