ANDOVER huskies 3, CRETIN-DERHAM HALL raiders 0
(25-18, 28-26, 25-17)
The #3 seed Andover Huskies swept Cretin-Derham Hall to advance to the semifinals on Friday, but it wasn't
a breeze. Andover had to hold off two CDH Set points in set two to previal. Future Gopher Karli Hauer provided the power for Andover in that set and all game. She had the last three points of the second set with a block sandwiched around two kills. She topped the Huskies with 16 kills. The Raiders proved to be a scrappy bunch throughout the match. CDH had three players with 8 or more kills, same as Andover.
Andover didn't take control of the first set unit a five point run spearheaded by four points from Hauer during Kaitlin Turner's serve (17-11). Another six point run gave Andover a 22-14 lead. Both teams didn't give a lot away in the first set with CDH giving away 6 and Andover 4 points. On the other hand neither team was shutting down the FSSO game either.
CDH led in most stat categories in the second set but the final point total. They outearned the Huskies 19-16, but the errors piled up in this set for CDH was 12 total. CDH led the race to 5, 10, 15, 20, and even 25, but failed to get the two point margin for the victory twice. On their first try a hitting error did them in. A tip kill by Turner spoiled their other opportunity.
Andover grabbed the early lead in set three 7-3 after two aces (one a rotation violation) by Janelle Rupkalvis. CDH tied it at 12 after a 5-1 run. Andover responded right away with a five point run and the closest the Raiders came after that was three points.
Hauer had 21 points (16 kills) to lead Andover. Chloe Wieber led CDH with 12 points. Libby Hilger led CDH in the kill department with 11.
