Here are the D1 results for Saturday, November 21, 2009

BIG 10

#12 Minnesota beat Michigan State in five with a margin of 8 points. MSU led 2-0. Minnesota led in earned points 83-79. Lauren Gibbemeyer (Cretin-Derham Hall) had 21.5 points and Hailey Cowles (Eden Prairie) added 19.5 points for the Gophers.  Kyndra Abron had 19.5 points for the Spartans.

#5 Illinois swept Wisconsin with a margin of 20 points. Illinois led in earned points 56-38. Laura DeBruhler had 20 points for the Illini. Caity DuPont had 11 points for the Badgers.

Northwestern swept Iowa with a margin of 28 points. NW led in earned points 59-30. Sabel Moffet had 20 points and Naomi Johnson (Bloomington Kennedy) had 18.5 points for the Wildcats. Mallory Husz had 10 points for the Hawkeyes.

#1 Penn State swept Indiana with a margin of 14 points. PSU led in earned points 62-52. Arielle Wilson had 16.5 points for the Nittany Lions. Ashley Benson had 14.5 points for the Hoosiers.

Purdue beat Ohio State in four, but OSU had 3 more points on the day. Purdue led in earned points 79-75. Carrie Gurnelll reached the 1000 kill mark for Purdue and had 21.5 points. Katie Dull had 22 points and Susan Halverson (Apple Valley) had 5 digs for the Buckeyes.

GREAT WEST

North Dakota beat Utah Valley in four with a margin of

15 points. UND led in earned points 70-57. Annika Smed (Albert Lea) had 18.5 points and Devin Trefz (Bagley) had 17.5 points for the Sioux. Lindsay Vortherms (Windom) added 27 digs. Megan Langseth (Alexandria) was named MVP. Making the all tournament team besides Langseth were Vortherms and Amanda Polzin (Hutchinson).

MISSOURI VALLEY

Creighton swept Bradley with a margin of 29 points. Creighton led in earned points 56-30. Allie Oelke (Chaska) had 12 points for Creighton. Jessica Houts (Bloomington Kennedy) had 9.5 points and Laurel Sanford (Eagan) had 2.5 in addition for the Bluejays.

#21 Northern Iowa beat Drake in five, but Drake had 7 more points on the night.  UNI led in earned points 84-64. Amy Braun (Lakeville North) had 15.5 points for UNI.

Both teams move on to the Missouri Valley Tournament. UNI is #1, Creighton is #4.

MOUNTAIN WEST

#25 Colorado State beat UNLV in five with a margin of 4 points. UNLV led 2-1. CSU led in earned points 90-78. Tessa Nelson (Tracy-Milroy-Balaton) had 15.5 points for the Rams.

NORTHEAST

Sacred Heart swept Central Connecticut State with a margin of 17 points. SH led in earned points 66-43. Sara DeLacey (Spring Lake Park) had 4 points for CCS.

SUMMIT

IPFW is headed to the NCAA D1 Tournament with a five set win over host North Dakota State with a margin of 4 points. IPFW led 2-0. It was the first loss at home for the Bison in 20 matches. NDSU led in earned points 83-74. Chrissy Knuth (Champlin Park) had 28.5 points, Jennifer Lopez (DGF) had 50 assists, and Kelly Lopez (DGF) had 27 digs for the Bison. Knuth and Kelly Lopez were named to the All Tournament Team.
